It all started in the early 1980s – 10 years before anemos was founded – when Dr. Mengelkamp, the owner of anemos GmbH, drew the very first power curves for wind turbines with 10 kW rated power and 10 m hub height. In 1990 anemos GbR prepared the first wind and energy reports based on the European Wind Atlas approach. Soon we realized that more sophisticated atmospheric simulation models and consistent wind data will be needed in particular for wind farms in remote areas and over complex terrain. The application of the statistical-dynamical downscaling approach with atmospheric mesoscale models for wind farm site assessment was published in 1988 and has since become a standard methodology.
Reorganization of the anemos GbR into the anemos Gesellschaft fuer Umweltmeteorologie MbH in 2002 reflects the continuous development to a premier international consulting firm in wind power meteorology. We have built a team of meteorologists, geographers, environmental scientists, and technicians as well as the computational infrastructure that allow us to operate complex atmospheric mesoscale models and statistical analysis.
We have more than 30 years of experience in wind power meteorology and have developed methodologies that have become standard in site assessment. Our commercial success is based on continuous education, research and development.
